AI AND YOUR JOB · CHECKED OCT 2026

Will AI replace marketing managers?

Not the manager, but much of the team's production work. Google, Meta, HubSpot and Adobe now write ad variations, pick audiences, shift ad budgets and draft content, so the job is shifting toward setting strategy, budgets and brand rules and checking what the machines produce. BLS still projects marketing manager jobs to grow 7% from 2025 to 2035, though a Gartner survey found many CMOs plan to trim headcount and agency spend with AI.

Quick questions

Will AI replace marketing managers?

Unlikely in the next few years. BLS projects marketing manager jobs to grow 7% from 2025 to 2035 [2]. AI is more likely to shrink the teams and agencies under them: in Gartner's 2025 survey, 39% of CMOs planned to reduce labor costs and 22% said generative AI had cut their reliance on agencies [7].

Is marketing management a good career with AI?

It can be, if you can run the AI rather than compete with it. The median marketing manager earned $166,790 in May 2025 [2]. CMOs in Gartner's survey said generative AI mostly improved time efficiency (49%) and cost efficiency (40%), which rewards managers who can show those gains [7].

Will Google and Meta automate ad campaigns completely?

They are moving that way. Google's AI Max for Search writes headlines and expands which searches your ads show for, and Google claims 14% more conversions at similar cost on average [3]. Meta's Advantage+ campaign budget already moves spend between ad sets automatically [11], and the Wall Street Journal reported Meta plans to let brands create and target ads from an objective and a price point by 2026 [4], but the brand, total budget and offer still come from you.

What AI tools do marketing managers use?

Common ones include HubSpot Breeze agents for content, social posts and prospect research [5], Adobe GenStudio for producing on brand ad variations [6], and the built in AI in Google Ads and Meta ads [3] [4]. Most managers also use a general chatbot for briefs and first drafts.

Which marketing jobs are most at risk from AI?

Roles built on producing lots of similar content, such as ad variations, product copy and routine social posts, are most exposed because tools like HubSpot's content and social agents now draft them [5]. Jobs that own strategy, budgets and cross team decisions, like the manager role, are safer [1] [7].
