Pricing: what you actually pay
Both companies price their main paid plan the same. ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month ChatGPT Plus help ↗, and Claude Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month if you pay $200 up front for a year Claude pricing ↗. That yearly discount is something ChatGPT Plus does not advertise on its help page.
Below that, ChatGPT has a cheaper option. ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month in the US and offers 10 times more messages, file uploads and image creation than the free tier, plus a longer memory ChatGPT Go launch ↗. OpenAI said it planned to test ads on the free tier and on Go, while Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise stay ad free ChatGPT Go launch ↗. Claude has no plan between Free and Pro Claude pricing ↗.
For heavy users, both offer a step up. ChatGPT Pro comes in two tiers named Pro $100 and Pro $200, giving 5 times and 20 times the usage of Plus.
