Notion AI is the set of AI writing, search, meeting notes and agent features built into the Notion workspace. It is worth it for teams that already keep their docs, wikis and projects in Notion and will pay for the Business plan at $20 per member a month, but it is not the best standalone writing tool, and Free and Plus users only get a limited trial.
What Notion AI is
Notion AI is not a separate app. It is a layer of AI features inside Notion, the workspace many small teams use for notes, wikis, project boards and databases Notion AI ↗. Because it sits where your documents already live, it can draft, summarize and search using your own pages as context.
The main pieces are the Notion Agent, which handles multi step tasks using context from Notion, connected apps and the web; AI Meeting Notes, which records meetings and writes summaries without a bot joining the call; Enterprise Search, in beta, which searches across connected apps like Slack, Google Drive and GitHub; and Research Mode, which writes detailed reports on a topic Notion AI ↗. There are also AI blocks for writing, AI generated databases, Autofill for database properties and formula writing Notion AI ↗.
Custom Agents let teams automate recurring work on a trigger or schedule Notion AI ↗. Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this review with results.
What it does well
Context is the big advantage. A general chatbot only knows what you paste into it. Notion's agent can pull from your workspace, connected apps and the web to complete a task Notion AI ↗, so asking it to draft a client update from last week's meeting notes and project board can work without copying anything over.
Meeting notes are handy for small teams. AI Meeting Notes captures details and action items right where you work, with no bot needed Notion AI ↗. That saves a separate subscription to a note taking tool.
Search across tools is useful once a team has information spread around. Enterprise Search, still in beta, covers Slack, Google Drive, GitHub and more Notion AI ↗.
Notion is flexible about models. It says you can switch any workflow to a different model or provider without losing context Notion AI ↗, though it does not name the models on its AI page.
Privacy terms are clear. Notion says its contracts with AI subprocessors prohibit training on customer data, data is encrypted in transit, and non Enterprise data is kept by LLM providers for 30 days Notion AI ↗. Enterprise gets zero data retention with LLM providers and supports HIPAA compliance Notion AI ↗ Notion pricing ↗.
Where it falls short
Full AI needs Business. Notion AI is included with Business and Enterprise, while Free and Plus get only a limited trial Notion AI ↗. The pricing page does not say how big that trial is Notion pricing ↗.
It is tied to Notion. If your team writes in Google Docs or Word, you would be adopting a whole workspace to get the AI. Dedicated writing tools like Claude or Grammarly work wherever you already write.
Custom Agents cost extra. They were free through May 3, 2026, and now use Notion credits at $10 per 1,000 credits a month; if credits run out, agents pause automatically Notion AI ↗ Notion pricing ↗.
Notion does not name the AI models on its pricing or AI pages Notion pricing ↗ Notion AI ↗, so it is harder to compare output quality with tools that do.
