Grok is the AI assistant from xAI, available on grok.com, in iOS and Android apps and inside X. It has live X search and image and video models that rank near the top of independent leaderboards, but its main paid plan costs about $30 a month, more than ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, so most small businesses get better value elsewhere.
What Grok is
Grok is a general AI assistant. You can chat with it, ask it to reason step by step, write code, analyze files and PDFs, and generate images and video in the same thread xAI Grok ↗. It works in more than 30 languages and keeps memory across chats xAI Grok ↗.
It runs on the web at grok.com, in iOS and Android apps and inside X, the social network xAI Grok ↗. Grok's site now describes it as built by SpaceXAI, and Arena's leaderboards list its models under that name Grok plans ↗ Arena image ↗.
Grok Imagine is its image and video tool. xAI says it makes images up to 2K resolution and 15 second videos at 720p, and you can edit results with follow up prompts xAI Grok ↗. Paid plans add multi agent reasoning, where several agents work on parts of a problem and merge their answers with citations xAI Grok ↗.
What it does well
Live X search is the standout. Grok searches the web and X in real time and cites sources xAI Grok ↗. If your customers or industry talk on X, that is a useful way to follow news and sentiment.
Its image and video models are strong. On Arena's text to image leaderboard, a Grok Imagine 2.0 model ranked fourth when we checked Arena image ↗. On the text to video leaderboard, a Grok Imagine video model also ranked fourth, though that rank was marked preliminary Arena video ↗.
It is free to try. The free tier works on the web and in the apps without paying xAI Grok ↗. If you already pay for X Premium+, Grok access is included, according to a third party pricing roundup GPTPrompts roundup ↗.
Where it falls short
It costs more than rivals. SuperGrok is $30 a month according to the same roundup, while ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost $20 GPTPrompts roundup ↗ ChatGPT pricing ↗ Claude pricing ↗. xAI's own pages did not show plan prices when we checked xAI Grok ↗ Grok plans ↗.
The free tier is tight. The roundup describes tight daily caps and lower priority at busy times, and says free users do not get the newest model features GPTPrompts roundup ↗. Neither xAI nor the roundup publishes exact message limits xAI Grok ↗ GPTPrompts roundup ↗.
Business details are thin. xAI links to a business page, but the main Grok page gives no team plan details or prices xAI Grok ↗. The roundup says team and enterprise plans are custom annual contracts GPTPrompts roundup ↗. We found little published detail on image and video limits per plan, which is one reason we left Grok out of our image and video guides. Hands on testing is in progress; we will update this review with results.
Pricing and plans
