OUR VERDICT

The MOVA Rover X10 is a premium cordless pool robot that cleans the floor, walls, waterline, steps and surface, with laser mapping and a floating relay that keeps the app connected underwater. It suits large, simply shaped pools where owners want maximum automation, but at $2,499 on sale and nearly 35 pounds, it costs and weighs more than our upgrade pick.

What the MOVA Rover X10 is

The Rover X10 is MOVA's flagship robotic pool cleaner. It is cordless and charges on a wireless dock rated IPX8 waterproof MOVA store ↗. MOVA says it cleans seven zones: the surface, floor, walls, corners, waterline, steps and shallow areas, and covers up to 5,400 square feet per cycle MOVA store ↗.

It maps the pool with a 360 degree underwater laser distance sensor, uses an underwater AI camera to spot stains, and carries 29 sensors and 15 motors MOVA store ↗. A floating relay, which MOVA calls the AquaSonar float, sits on the water and keeps the app connected while the robot works below MOVA store ↗.

Bob Vila named it its Upgrade Pick after testing Bob Vila guide ↗. Hands on testing is in progress on our side, and we will update this review with our results.

What it does well

Coverage is the main strength. Bob Vila found excellent cleaning coverage across fine dirt, algae and floating debris, strong edge and corner cleaning, and gave it 5 out of 5 for performance Bob Vila guide ↗. Basic Tutorials praised its floor, waterline and surface cleaning and liked the skimmer function in particular Basic Tutorials review ↗.

App control underwater is rare. Most pool robots lose their connection once they sink. The floating relay lets you watch and steer the X10 in real time, and Bob Vila found its app more useful than most for that reason MOVA store ↗ Bob Vila guide ↗. Basic Tutorials adds that the float shows water temperature Basic Tutorials review ↗.

It runs a long time. MOVA rates the 15,000 mAh battery for up to 6 hours on the floor and up to 12 hours of surface cleaning MOVA store ↗. Suction is rated at up to 10,000 gallons per hour from four jet drive motors MOVA store ↗.

Filtration is strong. The 5 liter basket takes replaceable 180 micron and 3 micron ultra fine filters MOVA store ↗. When the job is done, it can park itself at the surface or at a point you choose in the app MOVA store ↗.

Where it falls short

Weight is the biggest complaint. MOVA lists it at 34.8 pounds MOVA store ↗. Bob Vila called it one of the heaviest robots it tested and said lifting it out can be hard on your back, even with automatic parking Bob Vila guide ↗. Basic Tutorials said the included recovery hook only partly helps Basic Tutorials review ↗.

The tech has limits. Basic Tutorials found the laser mapping less accurate in cloudy water, steps and corners weaker depending on pool shape, and the floating relay stable only within about 15 meters while needing its own regular charging Basic Tutorials review ↗.

The software has gaps too. In full clean mode, surface cleaning switches on automatically and cannot be turned off separately, and the app gives no maintenance alerts for wear parts like filters and brushes Basic Tutorials review ↗.

It is also overkill for small pools. Basic Tutorials suggests MOVA's smaller Diver A10 for small pools or occasional use Basic Tutorials review ↗.

Pricing and plans

MOVA's US store lists the Rover X10 at $2,499, down from a regular price of $2,999, with a 30 day price guarantee MOVA store ↗. Bob Vila lists it at Amazon, The Home Depot, Best Buy and Walmart Bob Vila guide ↗.

MOVA advertises a warranty of up to 3 years and 30 day free returns, though the page does not detail the warranty terms MOVA store ↗. Shipping is free MOVA store ↗.

There is no subscription. The box includes the robot, wireless charging dock, AquaSonar float, a retrieval hook and an ultra fine filter MOVA store ↗. Plan on replacement filters and brushes over time, since the app does not track their wear Basic Tutorials review ↗.

Who should (and shouldn't) use it

  • Good fit: owners of large in-ground pools who want floor, wall, waterline, step and surface cleaning from one cordless robot.
  • Good fit: people who want to watch and steer the robot from an app while it is underwater.
  • Skip it if: lifting a 35 pound robot out of the pool is a problem for you MOVA store ↗ Bob Vila guide ↗.
  • Skip it if: you have a small pool or cloudy water; a cheaper robot will do the job Basic Tutorials review ↗.
  • Skip it if: you only need the floor and walls cleaned.
