The Best AI Tools for Podcasters

A podcast has four jobs: recording, cleaning up audio, editing, and promoting each episode. Here is the AI tool we would use for each, including one that costs nothing.

We may earn a commission when you sign up through links on this page. It never changes our picks. How we pick

THE SHORT ANSWERIn use

Yes. AI can now clean up bad audio, remove filler words, transcribe episodes and write show notes and social posts for you. For most podcasters we recommend Descript, which lets you edit an episode by editing its transcript and starts at $16 a month billed yearly. If your audio is the problem, try Adobe Podcast's free Enhance Speech first.

Podcasters of every size use AI for audio cleanup, transcripts and show notes, and free tiers make it easy to start.

Descript

Best for editing: cut episodes by editing the transcript, then make clips.

Descript transcribes your episode and lets you edit it like a document. Delete a sentence in the transcript and the audio and video go with it. Filler words and retakes can be removed in one click, and a timeline is there for fine adjustments Descript features ↗. For interview and solo shows, this is a faster way to edit than scrubbing a waveform.

The AI tools cover most podcast chores. Studio Sound removes background noise and enhances voices, Underlord can turn a raw recording into a first cut, and the Create clips feature helps you pull short videos for social media Descript pricing ↗ Descript features ↗. Custom voice clones let you fix a misspoken word without re-recording, on paid plans Descript pricing ↗.

Hobbyist is $16 a month on the yearly plan or $24 month to month, with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month Descript pricing ↗. Creator is $24 yearly or $35 monthly with 30 media hours and 4K export Descript pricing ↗. The free plan gives 1 media hour a month and 100 one time AI credits, with a watermark on 720p video exports Descript pricing ↗. Hands on testing is in progress; we will update this guide with results.

Why we like it

  • Edit audio and video by editing text
  • One click filler word removal
  • Studio Sound cleans up audio
  • Clips for social media built in
  • Free plan to try

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Media hours and AI credits are capped
  • Weekly long shows may need Creator

Best for recording guestsStarts at $29/month, $24/month billed yearly

Riverside

Best for recording remote guests in high quality, with AI editing built in.

Riverside is a browser based studio for recording remote interviews. It records each person on a separate track, which makes editing and fixing one guest's audio much easier Riverside pricing ↗. Pro adds unlimited transcription, text based editing, audio enhancement, AI show notes, Magic Clips and an AI editing and repurposing agent Riverside pricing ↗.

Pro costs $29 a month or $288 a year, about $24 a month, with up to 4K video, 48 kHz audio and no watermark Riverside pricing ↗. The free plan includes a one off 2 hours of separate track recording, 720p video with a watermark and Magic Clips Riverside pricing ↗. Why we like it

  • Separate tracks for every guest
  • Up to 4K video on Pro
  • AI show notes and Magic Clips
  • Text based editing on Pro

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Recording hour limits unclear on the pricing page
  • Overlaps with Descript if you buy both
Best free optionFree; Premium $9.99/month per third party review

Adobe Podcast

Best for fixing echo and noise in a recording, free.

Adobe Podcast's Enhance Speech is a free AI filter that, in Adobe's words, makes spoken audio sound like it was recorded in a soundproofed studio Adobe Enhance Speech ↗. Upload a recording made in a kitchen or a car and it removes background noise, echo and room sound Adobe Podcast review ↗ Adobe Enhance Speech ↗. The free tier also includes Mic Check, which analyzes your microphone setup, and a browser recording studio Adobe Podcast review ↗.

A March 2026 review lists the free limits as files up to 30 minutes and 500MB, and 1 hour of enhanced speech a day Adobe Podcast review ↗. Premium is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year and raises that to 2 hour files and 4 hours a day, and adds video, bulk upload and adjustable strength Adobe Podcast review ↗. Those figures come from a third party review because Adobe's own pages did not show limits when we checked, so confirm them when you sign up.

Why we like it

  • Free and very easy to use
  • Rescues poorly recorded audio
  • Mic Check helps you set up
  • Cheap Premium upgrade

Flaws but not dealbreakers

It also makes audiograms and video clips, which are unlimited on all plans Castmagic pricing ↗.

Hobby costs $19 a month billed yearly ($239 a year) and includes 30 transcribed hours Castmagic pricing ↗. Starter is $48 a month billed yearly with 100 hours Castmagic pricing ↗. The page describes hours as a library allowance rather than a monthly upload limit, and you can buy more at any time Castmagic pricing ↗. It can publish to YouTube, Libsyn, PodBean, SoundCloud and Spreaker, and connects through Zapier and an API Auphonic features ↗.

Who this is for

This guide is for independent podcasters and small businesses that run a show: coaches, consultants, agencies, local businesses and hobbyists who record interviews or solo episodes and edit them themselves. If editing and promoting each episode takes longer than recording it, AI can give you hours back.

It is a toolkit, not a single pick. Most shows need help with four jobs: recording, cleaning up audio, editing, and promoting. You probably need two of these tools, not five. A solo show recorded at a desk might only need Descript. An interview show with remote guests might pair Riverside with Castmagic.

If you are just starting, spend nothing for the first few episodes. Record with what you have, run the file through a free cleanup tool, and edit on a free plan. Pay for a tool only once you know which job eats most of your week.

Why you should trust us

We read each vendor's pricing and feature pages and checked every price on October 9, 2026. Where a vendor page did not show limits or prices, as with Adobe Podcast, we used a dated third party review and say so. Every fact links to its source.

We have not yet tested these tools hands on for this guide. Hands on testing is in progress, and we will update this page with results from editing and cleaning up real episodes. No vendor paid for placement, and picks were chosen on merit.

How we picked

We broke a podcast workflow into jobs and looked for the tool that handles each job best at a price a small show can afford. We favored tools that work on your real voice and recordings, since listeners come for the host, and we looked hard at free plans because many podcasts earn nothing in their first year.

We also checked how each tool fits with the others. Descript, Riverside and Castmagic overlap on transcription and clips, so we explain which to pick if you only want one.

  • Saves time on every episode
  • Improves audio quality without an engineer
  • Transcripts accurate enough to edit from
  • Clear pricing with a usable free plan or trial
  • Exports without a watermark on paid plans
  • Helps promote episodes, not just produce them

What AI can and can't do for a podcast today

AI is now good at the technical cleanup that used to need an audio engineer. It can remove noise and echo, balance speakers, set loudness and cut filler words Descript features ↗ Adobe Podcast review ↗ Auphonic features ↗. It can transcribe an episode so you edit by text Descript features ↗ Riverside pricing ↗, and it can draft show notes, timestamps, quotes, newsletters and social posts from that transcript Castmagic pricing ↗.

AI is less reliable at judgment. It does not know which tangent your listeners love or which joke landed. Automatic show notes can miss the point of an episode or get a guest's name wrong. Heavy noise removal can make voices sound thin. Listen to the result and read every summary before publishing.

AI voice cloning can patch a misspoken word Descript pricing ↗, and tools like ElevenLabs can generate whole voices ElevenLabs pricing ↗, but using a synthetic voice for a whole episode changes the trust you have with listeners. If you use it, say so.

Before you sign up

Count your hours. Descript prices by media hours, Riverside by recording hours, Castmagic by transcribed hours and Auphonic by processed hours Descript pricing ↗ Riverside pricing ↗ Castmagic pricing ↗ Auphonic pricing ↗. A weekly one hour show uses about four or five hours a month before retakes, so pick a plan with headroom.

Get consent before you record guests and keep the separate tracks. If you plan to clone your own voice for fixes, read the vendor's terms on who owns the voice model.

A simple way to start: pick one episode, run it through the free tiers of the tools above, and time how long each step takes compared with your usual workflow. Keep the tool that saves the most time, and drop the rest. Most shows only need two or three AI tools, not a whole stack.

  • Start with free tiers to test on a real episode
  • Record separate tracks for each guest when you can
  • Check yearly versus monthly prices
  • Read every AI show note before publishing
  • Tell guests you record and how you use AI
  • Back up your raw recordings outside any one tool

What to look forward to

Podcast tools are turning into agents. Descript's Underlord takes plain instructions and returns a cut Descript features ↗, and Riverside lists an AI editing and repurposing agent on Pro Riverside pricing ↗. Expect one tool to record, edit, clean and write the promotion for an episode with little input.

Video podcasts keep growing, which is why every tool here now makes clips for social media. We will update this guide when hands on testing is complete and as prices and plans change.

The competition

OpusClipStarts at $15/month; Pro $14.50/month billed yearly

OpusClip finds clips in long videos and adds captions, with auto posting to Shorts, TikTok and Reels on paid plans OpusClip pricing ↗. It is useful for video podcasts, but Descript and Riverside already include clip tools Descript pricing ↗ Riverside pricing ↗.

ElevenLabsStarts at $6/month

ElevenLabs offers voice cloning and dubbing on paid plans, with a free plan of 10,000 credits a month ElevenLabs pricing ↗. It is a strong option for translating a show or making ads, but most podcasters do not need synthetic voices for regular episodes.

Adobe Premiere ProStarts at $22.99/month on an annual plan

Premiere includes Enhance Speech and text based editing Adobe Premiere ↗, but at $22.99 a month on an annual plan it is a professional video editor and more than an audio first podcast needs Adobe Premiere ↗.
