OUR VERDICT

The Pudu KettyBot Pro is a slim delivery and greeting robot with an 18.5 inch ad screen, priced from about $14,000 through a major US reseller. It suits smaller restaurants and shops that want a robot to run food and also show promotions at the door. If you only need plates carried, the Bear Robotics Servi does that job for less.

What the Pudu KettyBot Pro is

KettyBot Pro is a compact service robot from Pudu Robotics. Pudu sells it as a delivery and reception robot with an ad display Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. It carries food and drinks to tables, greets guests, leads them to their seats and shows promotions on a large screen Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗.

It is about 43.5 by 45 by 112 cm and weighs 38 kg (about 84 pounds) Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. Each tray level holds 10 kg (22 pounds) Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. A European reseller lists two tray levels plus a return compartment MyBotShop ↗; RobotLAB lists three shelves RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗.

In the US it is sold through integrators such as RobotLAB, which handles delivery, setup, staff training and service RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗. Hands on testing is in progress.

What it does well

It fits tight rooms. Pudu lists a minimum passage of 52 cm (about 20.5 inches) in some situations Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. That is narrower than many full size serving robots, which helps in small cafes and crowded dining rooms.

It doubles as a sign. The 18.5 inch screen can show promotions, and a cruise mode lets it roam the room broadcasting offers Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. A separate 10.1 inch touchscreen handles operation MyBotShop ↗.

It greets guests. Voice interaction lets it say hello and talk through screen content, and it can lead guests to a table Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗.

Solid navigation. Pudu says it combines laser and visual navigation, and uses 360 degree fisheye lenses to detect when items are taken from a tray Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. It cruises at up to 1.2 m/s Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗.

It can work across floors. RobotLAB lists elevator, door opener and multi floor support RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗.

Support and warranty. RobotLAB includes a 1 year warranty and offers on site setup and ongoing service RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗.

Where it falls short

Small trays, light loads. At 10 kg per level, it carries less than larger robots Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. The Bear Robotics Servi, for comparison, carries up to 66 pounds across two trays and a bus tub Bear Robotics Servi ↗.

Shorter shifts. Pudu rates it for 9 hours with no load and 3.5 hours to charge Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. Servi is rated for 10 to 12 hours Bear Robotics Servi ↗. A long double shift may need a mid day top up.

The dock costs extra. Pudu says the robot returns to a docking station when low, but the station is sold separately Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗.

Confusing reseller data. RobotLAB's page lists two monthly prices, $479 and $395, and also gives two battery figures and two weights in its comparison table RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗. Pudu's own page gives both 51 cm and 52 cm for minimum passage Pudu KettyBot Pro page ↗. Get a written quote with specs.

It costs more than Servi. At $14,000 to buy, it is about $4,000 more than RobotLAB's starting Servi price RobotLAB KettyBot Pro ↗ RobotLAB T8 ↗.
