Gemini in Google Workspace puts Google's AI inside Slides, Docs, Gmail, Meet and Drive, bundled with the Business Standard and Plus plans. If you already pay for one of those, turn it on for slide drafts and summaries. It is not a reason to switch office suites, and it builds less of a finished deck than dedicated tools.
What Gemini in Google Workspace is
Gemini is Google's AI model family. In Workspace it appears inside the apps you already use and as the standalone Gemini app Google Workspace pricing ↗. Gemini in Gmail and Vids is on every business plan; Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and Chat needs Business Standard, Plus or Enterprise Google Workspace pricing ↗.
In Google Slides, Google says Gemini can summarize your content, generate a slide from a simple prompt and your Drive files, and create images from a text description Google Slides page ↗. That makes it a helper inside a deck you are building, rather than a tool that hands you a finished presentation.
Gemini used to be a paid add on. Google folded it into the base plans and raised prices, effective for existing customers from March 17, 2025 or at renewal eesel Gemini pricing ↗. Hands on testing is in progress.
What it does well
No extra purchase for most business users. If you are on Business Standard or Plus, Gemini in Slides, Docs and Meet is already part of your subscription Google Workspace pricing ↗ eesel Gemini pricing ↗. For teams that already live in Google's apps, that is the lowest friction way to try AI on slides.
It works with your own files. Slide generation can draw on content in your Drive, so a deck can start from documents your team already wrote Google Slides page ↗. That is useful for internal updates, sales recaps and training slides.
Image generation is built in. You can ask for an image that matches a slide and place it directly, without a separate image tool or stock library Google Slides page ↗.
It covers more than slides. The same plan adds Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet, expanded Gemini app access, and NotebookLM with up to 20 Audio Overviews a day Google Workspace pricing ↗. If you would use AI across several apps, the bundle is good value.
Where it falls short
Not on the cheapest plan. Business Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and Vids and basic access to the Gemini app, but not Gemini in Slides, Docs, Sheets or Meet Google Workspace pricing ↗. Small teams on Starter have to move up to Standard to use it in Slides.
Less deck building than dedicated tools. Google describes generating a slide and images, not designing a whole branded deck with layouts and themes from one prompt Google Slides page ↗. Tools like Gamma and Plus AI are built specifically to draft full presentations Gamma pricing ↗ Plus AI pricing ↗.
You pay for everyone. Because Gemini is bundled into the plan price, every user on the plan pays for it whether they use AI or not eesel Gemini pricing ↗. You cannot drop it to save money.
Some features are extra. Help me visualize is sold as an add on Google Slides page ↗, and Google lists a separate AI Expanded Access add on for heavier use Google Workspace pricing ↗.
